Thursday Lunch Program

The Peace and Justice Committee serves the parish by coordinating the work of social justice and acting as a resource for social justice issues. Thanks to the generous hearts of our parishioners and coordination with local organizations the St. John's Peace and Justice Committee is able to facilitate the Thursday Lunch program. We provide homemade soup, a hearty sandwich and dessert to everyone who comes; we also provide bread, baked goods, and pet food when available. All are welcome. Our parish hall has become more than just a place to come for food; it is a place where people care.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, bag lunches will be handed out. Hot lunch is also available.

St. John's Peace and Justice Committee offers lunch (soup and a sandwich) every Thursday from 11:00am until 1:00pm.

Thanks to those who makes this possible

Through the generosity of Bob and Eileen White, the Peace and Justice team has received these beautiful aprons. We proudly wear the aprons on Thursday when we serve the less fortunate in the San Lorenzo Valley. Many of our Thursday guests have commented on our beautiful new logo!

Bob and Eileen have also donated brand new hoodies, sweatshirts, jackets and caps to be distributed by Peace and Justice. Our guests were overwhelmed and thanked us profusely. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Bob and Eileen for their thoughtfulness and kindness.

Thanks to Patti Schonig and Dale and Laura Dallas for organizing and performing in the beautiful Christmas concert and bake sale. It was truly an inspirational event and very successful!

Our thanks go out to our wonderful soup makers, Suzy Brown and Rich Bergmann. Peace and Justice would not be able to serve a warm, nutritious lunch without their dedication to our goals.

We also want to thank Mike Jeffrey for making our weekly grocery run to Costco. Mike’s dedication to the Peace and Justice mission has lightened the load for many of us.

We want to give a big shout out to Norma Short and Jean Vandevort for their endless hours of knitting scarves and caps for our guests. Jean also keeps us well supplied with clean, warm socks!

Following are some of the local community organizations and businesses that also support our efforts:

  • Bread and pastries donated on a weekly basis from Valley Churches United Missions
  • Pet food donated by Felton Feed; Earth Wise Pet; and Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter
  • Unclaimed clothing items are donated by The Crow’s Nest

Most importantly, we want to thank the parishioners of St. John’s who generously continue to support our mission to serve a nutritious meal in a safe, warm and friendly environment. We could not continue our Thursday lunch program without the help you and our community provides. Blessings and our deepest thanks to all!
